Saturday may the 9th was not a perfect weather day but the fishing made up for it. Great catches of gaffer dolphin and some nice sized yellow fin tuna. We started off the day with a 25lbs Wahoo and later with a King mack. Some boats to the north of us were catching dolphin on a change so we headed that way. Hitting a single and a double or two along the way up to them. When we got up to the 500 line we caught a tuna. A couple of circles later we caught four more and a few more dolphin.  We ended the day up with a pair of nice tuna. Thank you mike and your crew for fishing with us we’ll see you next year

outer banks to go fishing instead of Golfing. Thanks Jeff. We started the day down on the lower end near Hatteras on some rocks. Catching a couple of small black fin tuna and a few dolphin. After a while Jeff said he’s had enough of these small fish “Let’s go look for a big one” So we started heading offshore from the rocks as I’m telling Joey the firstmate to put out a couple of bigger baits “LEFT TEASER BLUE ONE!!!”  The fish went back and forth a couple of times before Joey got a hook in him. “CRANK ‘EM IN GUYS LETS GO”  The” pro” Kevin Barny hops in the chair  and stared to fight the Marlin. We started to backing down as the line raced off the reel. This went on for a while then the fish started to go deep strait down. As we waited for the fish to come back up the line went slack! Well I guess it just wasn’t meant to be. Kevin told me he wanted to catch one before he died. I told him I just saved his life Joking back to him. Next time tell me you want to catch ten or twenty!! Anyway after the big let down we found a grass line and caught some gaffer dolphin a great way to end another day in the gulfstream.

Hook

The weeather on tuesday morning was a lot better than I expected however the fish didn’t think so. We set out in some ideal conditions on a blended change. The sea was fine the water temps where 74 with very little current. After a whlie with no bites and talking to some other captains that also had not done anything, We decide to GO DEEP or try a bottom drop. This turned out to be a great choice. We caught our limit of tile fish and a couple of grouper in just a short time. I knew we needed to get some fish in the box before the weather got bad and it did. Rain rain rain I don’t like fishing in the rain but you’ve got to do it sometimes. The rest of the day we trolled for dolphin and tuna with no luck only one bite. Your not always going to catch what your looking for but sometimes you get what ya need.

Saturday the 2nd of may was not the prefect weather day but the fishing really made up for it. In the morning the winds were up to around 20 knots out of the south west. Not too bad for us because we are use to it here! We started off fishing down the gulfstream change catching a few Gaffer Dolphin and missing a wahoo bite. Then the tuna hit three lines and we ended up catching two of them . After a couple of circles we didn’t have any more tuna bites so we started back to the change Dolphin fishing. It was a good while before we started catching some dolphin again but a couple of nice schools came in and we ended up with a good catch. The last school of Dolphin hit all the lines and we ended up catching most of them but there were a few left. So I made a circle back down the grass line to try and find them again when a Blue Marlin grabbed my right teaser. I yelled at Joey “RIGHT TEASER!!!” and he grabs a pitch bait putting it in front of the marlin. The marlin didn’t want the little ballyhoo and continued to attack the teaser even when I pulled it out of the water!! So Joey grabs a bigger bait and put it in front of the fish. Still no response from the marlin. This went on for quite a while back and forth from right teaser to left teaser from bait to bait. Finally I told Joey I didn’t see the fish anymore. Then the left long rigger came down screaming off line. I FOUND HIM AGAIN JOEY!! Here we go off to the races. It wasn’t so bad fighting the fish going down sea in 3 to 5 foot but when we where backing down into the sea the party got a little wet. oops!!! Sorry about the bath guys. Crank FASTER. About 15 minutes into the fight we got the leader in a wall of white water coming over the stern. Congratulation’s on your release. I guess it was around 300 to 350lbs. A great bonus to the days fishing.

As the spring season gets in gear the yellow fin and larger Dolphin are showing up! This weekend turn up to have some good catches of tuna dolphin and a few wahoo. I hope the weather will let us continue to chase the fish this weekend.  Thanks Captain Aaron

Big One

March 30th I hauled the boat out at Spencer marine . The usual spring time event where we paint the bottom change the props and fix anything else that needs repair. This year we painted the stern and replaced the letters. The last paint job we did on the Outrigger was in 2000 when I painted the whole boat. We try to keep on top of the mantance by doing small jobs every year so we don’t have one big job every 4 to 5 years.

      On the fishing report, this spring has brought a large number of blue fin tuna and the yellow fin are showing up in larger numbers now. The last couple of days have produce some limts of yellow fin and some good size blue fin.  Don’t miss out on the spring bite go fishing!!!

The day before new years ended up with some great rock fishing off of Duck pier. The fish have been moving south for the last couple of days. This day started off with some great family fun and by mid morning it was game on!!! I hope everyone has had a great hoilday season and I hope to see you on the Outter Banks soon.

Finaly the weather and the fishing came together on saturday. you couldn’t have asked for anything better. The sea conditions were like a beautiful summer day and the tuna bite was just enough to keep you bussy. We started off with a couple of blackfin tuna on the tiny side. Then a few yellow fin started to bite. The best of the action was around mid moring we hit five out of seven tuna.

    On the inshore side, the rockfish bite was ok for some of the boats around coralla light. With mixed up sizes from 18 to30+ lbs.
